Macher Jhol (Sardines in watery Indian sauce)
Ingredients.................
Sardines/ Sprats/ Indian rohu/ small fishes- 5-6
Cumin pwd- 3tsp
Turmeric pwd- 1tsp
Red chilli pwd- 1/4tsp
Salt to taste
Onion seeds/ Kalongi- 2tsp
Red whole chili- 1-2
Corriander chopped- 4tsp
Ginger garlic paste- 2tsp
Chopped tomato- 1cup
Oil-1/4cup
Method...................................
Wash sardines properly and marinate with salt and turmeric pwd and keep aside for 1/2 hour.
Take a bowl add cumin pwd+turmeric pwd+salt+red chili pwd+ginger garlic paste+ 5tsp water and mix them well and leave for 1min.
Heat the wok, add oil after 1 min, add marinated fish and fry both sides for 3 min. take out fishes and keep a side.
Now add onion seeds and red whole chilli in rest oil, fry for 1/2min, add cumin pwd paste and fry for 5 min, low medium heat, now add chopped tomato, salt again fry till tender or 2min.
Now add water 1 cup, it depends on you, you can add or less water, cover from lid and cook for 4min, now add fried fish and cover the lid again and cook for 2 min. switch off the heat. sprinkle chopped coriander fresh.
Macher Jhol (Sardines in watery Indian sauce) is ready to serve.
